As a sort of New Year’s resolution, I signed up for an annual membership at the Art Institute of Chicago. It’s in the neighborhood, but like too many things we take for granted in our neighborhood, I hadn’t been in years. The Art Institute of Chicago website offers nice overviews of some of my favorite paintings we saw again today, including these classics:
- A Sunday on La Grande Jatte — 1884, 1884/86 | Georges Seurat
- Paris Street; Rainy Day | Gustave Caillebotte, 1877
- At the Moulin Rouge, 1892/95 | Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
- A Sunday on La Grande Jatte — 1884, 1884/86 | Georges Seurat
- The Bedroom, 1889 | Vincent van Gogh
- American Gothic, 1930 | Grant Wood
The Art Institute of Chicago YouTube Channel includes a host of videos – from quick reviews of individual paintings to in-depth overviews of artists or exhibits. Signing up for a membership was a perfect way to cap off the holiday season and remind myself to be a better tourist in my own backyard in 2023.
