The Open Badges project has had a tumultuous legacy. Many of us working in the open education space who imagined the potential of digital badges were excited to follow the launch of the Mozilla and MacArthur backed project, but then dismayed watching the project’s later twists and turns as both of these early backers backed away followed by project spin-offs and confusing patent battles.
Therefore, I was interested to see a blog post this week from Doug Belshaw suggesting we need an Open Badges community renaissance. Doug has a long history with the project and describes his concerns about the stewardship under IMS Global Learning Consortium. He suggests the We Are Open Co-op might have a roll in building that community. If you’re interested, let him know in the comment section of his post.
Thanks Jennifer!
